Updates On Planning

So currently I am still storyboarding however I have recently started watching the 'Shannara Chronicles' which was recommended to me. Having seen the promotions for the show when I attended comic-con earlier this year in May it finally pushed me to go out and buy the DVD of the first season.

Having watched many fantasy and science fiction films, I like how the 'Shannara Chronicles' is set in a post-apocalyptic future where mythical beings have become reality. Setting the series in the future gives the whole thing a modern element as can be seen throughout the landscape of the series with parts of wrecked submarines, ships and helicopters. However, one element that I think is very clever is that the design of the characters has a modern flare to it. For example, in the first episode of Season One an elf named Amberle arrives at a festivity and is escorted by her uncle, Ander, whilst she is presented wearing a very modern looking dress. However, it still looks medieval and fantastical somehow - which is useful in regards to designing my character's costumes.

As I am still designing my characters, I found this combination of fantasy and science fiction very interesting. Giving the characters a medieval or fantasy theme but still adding a modern flare to both the characters design and personality makes the series seem intriguing as it is not something that is captured on the screen very often.
